VANESSA PARRISH COUNSELLING
ABOUT VANESSA
Vanessa Parrish, MSW, RSW

Vanessa (she/her) holds a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Toronto, and has been practicing for over 12 years across various mental health and counselling settings, including Fraser Health, BCCH, Canuck Place Children's Hospice, and Burnaby Counselling Group. She is registered with the BC College of Social Workers (#11638) and the BC Association of Social Workers.

Vanessa's approach to therapy is humanistic, with the belief that individuals have the innate potential to grow and heal, and discover their full potential. Her role as a therapist is to become a safe and "tuned-in" observer who can help you become more curious and compassionate about the things that are causing you distress.
Vanessa has a natural and down-to-earth way of connecting with clients, and believes that a trusting therapeutic relationship where her clients feel safe and understood is the most important aspect of therapy. While she has extensive experience providing behavioural approaches to therapy (such as cognitive behavioural therapy), she is strongly informed by an attachment and emotion-focused framework, which helps individuals safely notice, explore and process deeper emotions that may be impacting their well-being, sense of self, and relationships. She may help you in session to slow down and become more tuned in with what your body might be trying to tell you as well.
Vanessa has completed additional training in AEDP (accelerated experiential dynamic psychotherapy), EFT (emotion focussed therapy), CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), and mindfulness-based practices.
Vanessa is a firm believer in practicing self-compassion and self-affirmation. She primarily works with individuals (teens and adults), and has a specific interest in supporting women struggling with endometriosis. Some of the things that Vanessa helps her clients with include
